Revision of the Drone Code in the UK

Summary

The civil Aviation Authority (CAA) requires people who are given a drone as a gift to understand how to use it safely. According to the research by CAA, only 39% of drone owners know the regulations for safe-flying. The number of accidents caused by drones keeps rising. So now the CAA and NATS are providing the essentials for owners through the Internet and some organizations in Europe are calling for drone makers to equip “geo-fencing” systems with drones. Mr. Sage from NATS insists that drones are the fruits of advanced technology but it is quite important to use them safely.

Opinion

The UK’s drone code has been changed to the five terms whose initial letters are “DRONE.” I think this revision was well-devised to let drone owners remember how to fly it safely, but honestly, these five terms are not enough. I was very surprised to know that only 36% of buyers have got guidance for safe-flying when they bought drones. In the case of driving cars, we cannot get driving licence unless we go to driving school and learn to drive safely. Drones have risks of causing accidents, so it is necessary for drone buyers to get guidance and obtain licence same as the case of cars.

Warning Concerning Brexit against the UK Government

Summary

Nick Clegg who is the former Deputy Prime Minister in the UK has claimed that “hard Brexit” would make the food prices higher. Some products have already been raised their prices because of a fall in the value of pound. “Hard Brexit” means that the UK leaves the European single market and limit immigration and conversely, “soft Brexit” is to remain as a member of the single market instead of conceding free movement of persons. Mr.Clegg asserts that the government has no other choice but to take “soft Brexit” to keep food price hikes in check.

Opinion

Firstly, I think “soft Brexit” is better because it is such an eclectic plan, but I should focus on the point that there is also a difference between “hard Brexit” and “soft Brexit” from the viewpoint of restriction migrants.

In practice, there were about 70,000 cases in which immigrants were involved for three months in Germany. On the other hand, as this article says, control over migration is related to workforce shortages. That is to say, the immigration issue concerns all the people living in the country deeply. Therefore I think that the UK government ought to decide carefully whether or not to leave the European single market.

Final Essay

IMG_3416I have heard a piece of news about a cruel incident that a man neglected his child to death. The sad fact is that there are many children who are killed by their parent every year. So, I believe that we should adopt the way of saving children “the baby hatch.” It has been placed in Kumamoto Prefecture since 2007, but even now, there is only one system in Japan. We should push ahead with this system to prevent child abuse, reduce the number of abortion, and raise an issue to the society.

First of all, the baby hatch is effective to prevent child abuse. According to a survey, there are about 67,000 children abused by their parent, and the number of the cases is increasing year by year. Besides, some of the abused children were born by unwanted pregnancy. It means that such parents are not interested in child rearing because they had their babies by unwanted pregnancy. However, if there is a baby hatch, they can leave babies without hurting them, and we can prevent child abuse.

In addition, the baby hatch can reduce abortion. Surprisingly, according to statistics, there are 200,000 women who have an abortion in a year. As you know, abortion kills new lives growing up in mother’s womb. Nothing is harder than giving up new lives. From another perspective, it has some bad influences not only on babies, but also mothers. It is difficult for mothers to get pregnant after the abortion, and it costs too much for the operation. That is to say, abortion affects mothers ethically and economically, so they had better give birth to babies. If the baby hatch is set up, women who had unwanted pregnancy do not have to give up babies because they have a choice to leave babies.

Last but not least, setting up the baby hatches can raise an issue to the society. If more baby hatches will be set up in Japan, the media will come to pick up on this issue, and then people can know about the baby hatch, and they have a chance to think about the conception and child rearing. It leads to solve the problem of child abuse fundamentally.

All in all, as I have shown, adopting the baby hatch can save the children from abuse, decrease the number of abortion, and call attention to the society about this issue. The baby hatch can protect the babies, and it enable them to live with a new family. At this time, I have introduced about the baby hatch which is one of the ways to save children, but I strongly feel that each of us should think what we can do to decrease the number of suffering children.

Gun Rights and Gun Control in the US

Summary

The Second Amendment to the Constituion is always an extremely important issue in the United States. It guarantees the right for the people to bear arms such as guns. The gun issue has come to the Supreme Court in 2008 and 2010. In 2008, the court made a decision that the Constitution approves gun rights and it applied to federal laws. And then in 2010, the court ruled that gun rights applies to local and state laws as well. Both gun rights and gun control groups have petitioned for Congress to make the laws for many years and they still continue lobbying.

Opinion

Several months ago, there was an accident that a little child shot his mother by mistake. In the United States, it tends to happen such a tragedy as this because people have the rights to own guns for personal use. Therefore ordinary people should not have guns for the public peace. I strongly feel that Japan is one of the safest countries in the world since we are under the gun control.

But actually, it takes for granted that anyone has guns in the US, so I think it is difficult to eliminate guns at once, though I hope them to try not to use guns.

Tsai Ing-wen Sworn in as First Female President of Taiwan

Summary
Tsai Ing-wen was elected as the new president of Taiwan, becoming the first female leader of this country. Ms. Tsai who seems like a modest though decisive leader led the Democratic Progressive Party which has a policy to become independent of China to a landslide win in elections in January. In her inaugural speech, she called on Taiwan and Beijing to set aside the baggage of history and engage in positive dialogue for the benefit of the people on both sides.

Opinion
The fact that there are a few countries which have or had a female leader all over the world. According to a survey, the proportion of women in management positions in Japan is about 12% and the number of it is much lower than the other advanced countries. But in Japan, a new law concerning the promotion of female employees has enforced since April 1st, 2016. I expect this law to create an opportunity to raise public awareness of gender equality. There are the rights and the abilities to manage a company or govern a country not only for men but also for women. I strongly feel that the inauguration of the president in Taiwan inspires us to decrease differences between men and women.

Concerns about Somalian emigrants

Summary

According to the United Nations around 15% of Somali citizens migrated to other countries last year because of a horrible drought and an armed insurgency in Somalia.

Abdinur Mohamed Ahmed, who is based in the capital of Somalia, appealed to his fellow not to leave their country by using Twitter. He claims that they have no reasons to emigrate because of insecurity since suicide attacks actually happened in Europe. And besides, he is worried about the impact which migrants will make on the future of Somalia.

Opinion

We need to think about this issue from two points of view.

Firstly, immigrating to Europe. There were some suicide attacks not only in Somalia but also in Europe, as like Abdinur said, so we cannot ignore the fact that the danger of terrorism is close to us. However, people in Europe are much safer than in Somalia when we consider about it objectively.

Secondly, future of Somalia. It is exactly as Abdinur say, if many of them leave their country, Somalia cannot exist. So I suggest repatriation which can solve this problem. They had better wait and see until the situation settles down, and they back home to rebuild their country.
