Computer literacy preceded digital literacy, and refers to knowledge and skills in using traditional computers (such as desktop PCs and laptops) with a focus on practical skills in using software application packages. Digital skills is a more contemporary term but is limited to practical abilities in using digital devices (such as laptops and smartphones).<br \/>\nWikipedia<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDigital literacy is the ability to interpret and design nuanced communication across\u00a0fluid\u00a0digital forms.\u201d by Terry Heick<br \/>\nhttp:\/\/www.teachthought.com\/technology\/the-definition-of-digital-literacy\/<\/p>\n<p>Digital literacy: \u2018those capabilities which fit an individual for living, learning and working in a digital society\u2019 (JISC 2011),<br \/>\nhttp:\/\/www.digitalfutures.org\/section\/2-2-a-review-of-literature-on-digital-literacy-in-education\/<\/p>\n<p>The three stage model of digital literacy proposed by the DigEuLit project, funded by the EC eLearning Initiative (Martin and Grudziecki 2006) refers to the following three levels:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0digital competence is the skills, concepts approaches, attitudes, etc.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0digital usage refers to the application of digital competence within a specific context (such as school)<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0digital transformation which involves creativity and innovation in the digital domain<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>http:\/\/www.digitalfutures.org\/section\/2-2-a-review-of-literature-on-digital-literacy-in-education\/<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Task 1<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Create a Google forms survey<\/li>\n<li>Do this synchronously online<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Task 2\u00a0&amp; 3\u00a0(outside class)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Do some research into what schools\/teachers are doing to help keep students \u2018safe\u2019 online.
