Zuckerberg: Facebook will develop tools to fight fake news

Summary

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has outlined a serious of measures that should prevent fake news from being shared on Facebook. This was coming from accusations that a flood of fake news stories influenced the U.S. presidential election. He said that Facebook is working to develop stronger fake news detection, a warning system, easier reporting and technical ways to classify misinformation, but did not say how quickly the measures would be in place. He also said on Facebook that Facebook did not want to play the role of editor. This is Facebook’s ideal.

Opinion

I think that this news symbolizes “the influence of SNS” not only Facebook but also Twitter and so on. Mr. Donald Trump had taken  advantage of SNS to collect supporters and he won the presidential election. After the election, some newspapers said that many electors had  relied more on SNS information than on newspapers’ information, whether SNS information had been correct or not. In short, now SNS power is as same as some existing media’s one like news and newspapers. Therefore, administrators of SNS should be responsible for giving places to post people’s feelings or opinions and show “true or false” information. Plus, users should be responsible for posting and have a sense that “this news seems true, but that one seems false”.

Mosul: Iraq and Kurdish troops make gains in battle

Summary

Iraqi government troops and Kurdish fighters started military operations to recapture Mosul from IS in the early hours of Monday. Mosul, the second-largest city in Iraq, was seized by IS in June 2014. An Iraqi military source told the BBC that their attacks were operated well at the moment. IS-linked news agency, Amaq, reported information about their military actions, but IS has not made an official comment. However, the situation is further complicated. The battle between not only Iraqi-government and IS but also Sunni Arabs and Shia Arabs are occurred. Also, Mosul is the diverse city including Kurds, Assyrians, Turkmens and a variety of religious minorities. In short, It has become confusing.

Opinion

Religious conflicts are very serious and sensitive questions because religion is deeply related to people’s mind which cannot be changed easily. Nevertheless, one thing we have to keep in mind is that not all extreme or sensational actions are concerned with religion. For example: Although IS has made some terrible actions, Islam is not necessarily bad. Not all Muslims are cruel. Furthermore, another thing I want to say is that Japanese people ought to have more interest with religion. Sometimes Japanese people say that it is important for us to be tolerant to other religions. But I want to ask them: Do you know how profound religions are? Do you know how high “the mental wall” between one religion and others? I cannot answer.

Orlando alligator: Lane Graves found at Disney lagoon

Summary

A two-year-old boy, Lane Graves, who was dragged into Walt Disney World’s lagoon on Tuesday evening in front of his family, was found with no damage. But surprisingly, after divers had found him, five alligators were seized and killed. There is a “no swimming” sign on the man-made lagoon, but no signs around the lagoon warn visitors about the presence of alligators.

Opinion

This is a very interesting and unbelievable news because there are alligators in the man-made lagoon, which is placed apart from natural ocean or river. The Disney World should analyse why alligators have been able to enter the lagoon. I have heard that Walt Disney World in Florida is surrounded with nature, in short there are many trees or some rivers around it. Therefore I think that we have to think about how to live in with natural environment through this news. Plus, I think that this problem is caused by carelessness of the boy’s family. According to this news, the family were relaxing although the boy was on the edge of the water, and there is a “no swimming” sign. Yes, nobody would think that there were alligators in the lagoon. But it was dangerous for everybody to swim in it because there are some risks like drowning. So we have to notice about some signs!

Final Report

I believe that our efforts do not betray us. Make an effort, and we can reach our each goal even if it will take a long time. But we should put two points in mind. “Choice” and “Confidence”. These two keys are helpful for us to succeed. So I want to talk about these two tips, “Choice” and “Confidence”. Please keep these keys in mind, and I believe we can run easier way to our each goal in less time.

First key: “Choice”. We have to make an choice a lot in our lives, whether it is a great choice or not. For example, when we choose something to eat in convenience stores or choose one company from the other choices in job hunting. But in this case(making an effort), it is very important for us to make a better choice. Then, please think whether the choice is appropriate for you or not. If you want to be a lion, but you cannot become a lion because you are human beings, even if you train hard. If you want to be “Cristiano Ronaldo” just him, but you cannot become him because you are not “Cristiano Ronaldo”. But of course you may be able to become a football player like him or exceed his records. It is up to your effort. So please take your personality, ability or surroundings into consideration. This makes you become easier to achieve your aim.

Second key: “Confidence”. In the process of making an effort, it is necessary for us to gain confidence. Now, I refer to Ted Education’s video “3 tips to boost your confidence”. According to this video, there are three tips to cultivate our own confidence.                                                               1. Try a quick fix                                                                                            This can give you an immediate confidence boost in the short term. Picture your success when you are beginning a difficult task. It can promote feelings of power.                                                                                2.Believe in your ability to improve                                                                  It is important to think whether you can improve your abilities and talents or not because this mind can influence your actions when you are faced with setbacks. If you have a “fixed mindset” which means you think you cannot improve your abilities and talents, you may give up, assuming you have discovered something you are not good at. But if you have a “growth mindset” which means you think you can improve them, a challenge is an opportunity to learn and grow, and you will be likely to practice or tackle harder, so it may be fast to succeed. Also, some researches proved that people who have a “growth mindset” are more successful and do better in the face of challenges.                                           3.Practice failure                                                                                                  Studies show that people who keep trial and error are more successful because they learn how to overcome every challenge and setback with sometimes taking other’s advice. So we should realize that sometimes we fail, and should have a solution to each problem in mind and keep trial and error.                                                                                                     How do you feel about these three tips? These tips help you gain confidence and run to your goal.

Finally, I want to say one more thing that not only these two keys but also others’ help are essential to make an effort and succeed. So when someone who is struggling asks for your help, please help him/her. Keep these two keys in mind, make an effort, and we can find shorter and more efficient way. Let’s run to each goal straight!!

What made a Chinese teen stow away to Dubai?

Summary

On 27 May, Chinese teenager was founded in the cargo hold of flight EK303(Emirates Airlines) from Shanghai to Dubai. The boy had tried to stow away to Dubai because he wanted to make money there as beggar. This report has caused a conversation in China about misinformation because the teenager had heard that beggars in Dubai had been able to make 470,000 yuan($71,275) in a month and he tried to stow away. Actually, the information had reported and also shared widely on the Twitter, even though the news was incorrect. Some people said that the media should be blamed of spreading inaccurate news.

Opinion

I understand his action a little because I have ever been to Dubai and felt Dubai’s possibility of developing more and more, and people there were vital and curious to progress. However, his motive of going Dubai was come from the media’s wrong information. This is the problem! I think the media should be responsible for this. This seems small problem, but I think this issue should be the serious one because the media which basically have to tell the true news gave the false information. This rich Dubai’s news might be surprising, but why not did they tell the situation that Dubai police has carried out campaign to stop begging on the streets and some people has been already arrested because of making money excessively? Now I am interested in the media, therefore I want to think more about the media’s “real method” with this article.

Rwanda:Landslides caused by heavy rains kill dozens

Summary

About 50 people have been killed by landslides caused by heavy rains over the weekend in Rwanda. And sadly, most of the victims are believed to have been children. In the northern area, more than 500 homes are also destroyed and the country’s infrastructure has been damaged by the downpours. The nation’s serious problem is “erosion” because Rwanda, the densely populated country, is made up of hills and valleys, and this season is much more heavier rainy days than usual. Authorities in some East African countries have thought that the El Nino weather phenomenon has caused this heavier rainy season.

Opinion

What we have to think is the balance between developments and natural conditions. To live better, some developments are important. However, on the other hand, the environment may be destroyed. And we must avoid the situation that modern buildings and products cause danger, because of the ignorance of nature. For example, in China, rapid industrialization has brought about some serious environmental issues. I suppose you have seen the news about PM 2.5 problems. This article also says that Rwanda’s government has moved some people to safety areas. In my opinion, the state should have more surmised some dangerous occurrences. Therefore, we have to discuss many environmental problems further.
