What I Believe

I believe that we are able to prevent wars forever. In May 27th , President Barack Obama visited Hiroshima to inspect the atomic bomb museum and to meet Hibakusha who has have illnesses by atomic-bomb radiation. “We’re not bound by genetic codes to repeat the mistakes of the past. We can learn. We can choose. We can tell our children a different story, one that describes a common humanity, one that makes war less likely and cruelty less easily accepted,” Obama said in his historic speech in Hiroshima. I was impressed by his words.

Humankind has experienced enormous battles for a long time. It is not too much to say that the history of human is the history of wars. Among all of battles, the Second World War was most terrible. It has left scars in our heart which we will never forget. But we learned how precious the peace is through it.

At one time, the power ruled the world. But now, the world should be ruled by citizens and laws. We have made many international organizations like the United Nations or the European Union through the reflection of the war. We have to solve every international problems intellectually, not by military power.

Of course, many countries have armed forces and weapons now, but we can think or consult how to prevent to use them. To have the lowest military force is equal to lock the house doors. In the past, every countries had suspicions which made their fear. However, we can contact each other with a hot line or the internet. We can negotiate directly at once. Why do leaders need to suspect if other countries will attack?

Nongovernment international exchange is also important. These days, many foreigners live or work in all over the world. We can connect with people by using SNS like Facebook or Twitter. Of course, I sometimes use them to talk with my friends living in Des Moines-Iowa. Most of wars were caused by states. If people’s relationships were to continue to be good, wars would not be never caused.

“Mankind must put an end to war, or war will put an end to mankind,” the late President John F. Kennedy left these words. There are many disputes and acts of terrorism in the world now. But we should not to revenge upon them. A chain of resentment will put an end to mankind. We are most intelligent animal on the earth. If that is true, it must be easy for us to think how to prevent to kill each other. I believe we will be able to say, “We need no war!” someday.
