Tsai Ing-wen Sworn in as First Female President of Taiwan

Summary
Tsai Ing-wen was elected as the new president of Taiwan, becoming the first female leader of this country. Ms. Tsai who seems like a modest though decisive leader led the Democratic Progressive Party which has a policy to become independent of China to a landslide win in elections in January. In her inaugural speech, she called on Taiwan and Beijing to set aside the baggage of history and engage in positive dialogue for the benefit of the people on both sides.

Opinion
The fact that there are a few countries which have or had a female leader all over the world. According to a survey, the proportion of women in management positions in Japan is about 12% and the number of it is much lower than the other advanced countries. But in Japan, a new law concerning the promotion of female employees has enforced since April 1st, 2016. I expect this law to create an opportunity to raise public awareness of gender equality. There are the rights and the abilities to manage a company or govern a country not only for men but also for women. I strongly feel that the inauguration of the president in Taiwan inspires us to decrease differences between men and women.

Cornea transplant of pig’s eye in China

My topic is about medical in China. I read an article about cornea transplant of pig’s eye on to a 14 years old Chinese boy. The boy nearly lost his right eye’s sight after he was injured by a firecracker. Since there is a shortage of human cornea available for transplant in China because demand far exceeds the number donated, the surgery was the first of its kind in southern China. The doctor said that the method of transplant means about one-third to half of the five million patients for blind people could be helped.

After read about the article of pig’s eye transplant to human, I considered about organ donation system. Japan and other countries follow “opt in system” which means that organ will be donated only from the people who agreed to donate organ after one’s death. On the other hand, Spain follows “opt out system” which means the organ will be donated without one’s agreement after death. Opt in system will protect aspect of the deceased’s intention, but will not generalize the organ donation. On the other hand, opt out system will increase organ donation numbers, but however, it means the country and government will control one’s life after death. Japan has low to protect the right of individual respect in the 13 article of the constitution of Japan. Therefore, I think one’s life after death should be protected with intention as human rights. I would conclude with my opinion that Japan should follow “opt in system”.

Korean Air Jets Has Engine Fire in Tokyo, People Evacuated

Summary
On May 27, an engine of a Korean Air jet broke out and seven people, two men and five women, may have been injured by the accident. The fire was extinguished within the hour. Originally, the plane was going to head to seoul from Haneda airport in Tokyo, but the runway the plane was using has been closed and other flights have been temporarily halted. So, a different plane will fly to Haneda later Friday to transport the passengers. The cause of the accident was still unknown.

Opinion
I think a plane crash is the most dangerous of any accident. Because a plane crash happens in the highest place and a speed of a plane is so fast. In this case, the accident happened on the ground, but it was dangerous. That the cause of the accident is still unknown is so regrettable. Only a thing that no one was killed by the accident is happiness of unhappiness. If I were injured by the accident or a family of a person who is injured or killed by an accident, I would languish. So, the company, Korean Air, should illuminate the cause of the accident not to occur accidents like this case again.

Jumpei Yasuda: Japan believes hostage photo is genuine

Summary

In July, Jumpei Yasuda has been seized by the jihadist group al-Nusra Front. It is a party opposing the government in Syria, allied to al-Qaeda. In May 29th, a new photo which he holds a board saying “Please help me. This is my last chance.” was posted online. And Japan said a man in that photo is Mr. Yasuda and it was doing everything it could to help him. If the government did not negotiate, Mr. Yasuda would be passed to Islamic State, and would be beheaded like Kenji Goto and Haruna Yukawa in last year.

Opinion

I think what Mr. Yasuda has been seized by jihadist group al-Nusra Front is inevitable, because the journalist is the job which going to all over the world to interview anyone, heedless of danger. So, the journalist like Mr. Yasuda should go to dangerous area on his own responsibility.

It is so difficult for Japanese government to negotiate. If the government negotiates, an armed group like jihadist group al-Nusra Front and IS will seize more Japanese and use them for self-serving propaganda. In contrast, if the government doesn’t negotiate, the government will be criticized because Japan had not done enough to save him.

Philippines: Duterte vows to bring back death penalty

Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte said he want to return the death penalty. He said it would strengthen penalties for organized crime. He Built a reputation fighting crime. But he said something contentious lot such as he would kill thousands of criminals without trial.

Death penalty system has a lot of controversy. There are many people who favor the death penalty because of reduction of crime. Also too many people who oppose the death penalty. I think Death penalty have very dangerous risks like misjudgment of the death penalty.

I thought why he want to bring back the death penalty. Recently his approval ratings are low because of financial difficulties. So maybe his main purpose is strengthen his approval rating.

An agreement of India and Japan

Summary
The theme of the discussion of my group is one of topic about political agreement in India. The agreement is that India has agreed to buy a high-speed bullet train and nuclear plant technologies from Japan. The agreements with Japan came during a three-day visit to India by the Prime Minister,Shinzo Abe. The train would link Mumbai and Ahmedabad, cutting travel time on the route from eight hours to two. In conclusion, the leaders of Asia’s second and third largest economies also announced other areas of co-operation.

Opinions
My opinion about this article is this agreement is including expectation not only economy but also politics. Actually,China also wanted to buy the technology of high-speed bullet trains, but India chose technologies of Japan, because India has territorial disputes with China. It is similar to Japan. I think India wants to check China. Another my opinion is about exporting nuclear plant technologies. I disagree with this agreement because the geographical features of India is similar to Japan. India has experienced big earthquakes, so the safety isn’t guaranteed. Japan had a serious accident in Fukushima. The safety of Japanese technology isn’t absolute. I think India should rethink this agreement.

Taiwan Elects Its First Female President

Tsai Ing-wen has been sworn in as the new president of Taiwan, becoming the country’s first female leader. Tsai’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) won parliamentary and presidential elections by a landslide in January on a voter backlash against creeping dependence on China. Tsai called for Taiwan and Beijing to “set aside the baggage of history, and engage in positive dialogue, for the benefit of the people on both sides”.

There are many countries that have not had a woman president or prime minister. For example, Japan never had female prime minister even though Japan had prime minister since 1885. I think a woman can make a successful president or prime minister because women and men have equal skills. I believe that a woman can do anything a man can do. Some men are stronger than women, but the job of a president does not involve physical strength. Both men and women can be truthful and fair.. They’re both smart and can make good choices. The reason some people don’t think it can be done is because they never give them a chance. Women just need a chance.

Making history with Obama’s visit to Hiroshima

President Barack Obama visited Hiroshima and laid a wreath at the arch memorial built to remember the dead and injured. Obama is the first American president to visit Hiroshima while in office. He told people that death fell from the sky and the world was changed. He then met briefly with two survivors, Sunao Tsuboi and Shigeaki Mori. He talked about the horrors of war and the need to work toward a world without nuclear weapons. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said that this tragedy must not be repeated again we should realize a world free of nuclear weapons. Some Americans objected to Obama’s visit to Hiroshima because they thought that his visit was disrespectful to U.S. veterans who fought in the war. However, 70 percent of Japanese wanted Obama to visit Hiroshima. The atomic bombs led to two things. First, they killed a lot of people in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Secondly, the bombings brought an end to the Second World War. Since Japan surrendered less than two weeks after the attacks, Japan has developed with the help of the United States.

I think that it is very significant for the incumbent president of the United States to visit Hiroshima. Certainly, he did not make a formal apology to Japanese for dropping an atomic bomb, but visiting Hiroshima for its own sake is very important.  In the matter of the evaluation of the bombings, I agreed to dropping an atomic bomb. There are two reasons. Firstly, if the United States did not drop an atomic bomb, Japan did not dicide to surrender lengthily. So, there may be more victims than now. Lastly, people will not use an atomic bomb since the end of the Second World War. Ironically people do not understand a fear of nuclear weapons without using them. I want Obama to make an effort to realize a world without nuclear weapons after he step down from the president.

Summury and my opinion about using illegal drugs at Philippine

This incident shows that the drug problem in the philippines is serious.

On 21st may, 5 participants have died at the outdoors music festival held at a mall of Asia (MOA), in a Pasai city. This incident proved that drug culture, which also gets illicit drug easily at a public place stand   out, permeated through Philippine.

Then why has such a case happened? I think that it is caused by the fact that security precaution at the time was too loose. The organizer of the festival said, “A prevention measure and as the strict guard was taken.” However, a guard isn’t arranged in the place, and a participant was uncontrolled condition. In other words, they just told the name, the age and a mail address by a reception desk and didn’t need presentation of a status proof certificate. Therefore  a minor could enter easily.

It was also possible to hide a drug and a drink in the clothes because only the bag they held in their hand was checked. Therefore,  even a minor easily obtained a drug and was able to bring it into the festival place.

Here is an idea that a regulation by police officer should be revised so that they can control a private event. However, there is a problem. It is that whether we can use authorities though it is a private event. we may spoil the pleasure of general people if we use authorities for a private event. Therefore without having to perform the use of authorities carefully, and being able to perform the regulation properly.

The Shortage of Donation in China

Doctors in southern China have successfully transplanted part of pig’s eye on to a 14-year-old boy to help save his sight. The boy lost the sight in his right eye after he was injured by a firecracker. The cornea transplant surgery was carried out by a medical team from Zhongshan and the boy was able to see a week after the procedure. On the other hand, there is a shortage of human corneas available for transplant in China because demand far exceeds the number donated. A professor Yuan Jin was quoted as saying that the method of transplant means about one-third to half of five billion patients suffering from corneal blindness in China could be help.

The question of China is how to increase the number of donation. By the way, I knew some interesting words in English class in May 31. That is “opt-in” and “opt-out”. The term “opt-out” refers to several methods by which individuals can avoid receiving unsolicited product or service information. In “opt-out” system, you have to express your will to refuse if you don’t want to donate your organ. So you can expect that you can get much more donation. This system must be fascinating for people who need donation. However, we have to think about it carefully because there are some people who cannot express their will by themselves. If China hope to adopt “opt-out” system, people in China have to find the way to solve this problem.
