US naval officer arrested in Okinawa for drunk driving

summary

A US navy sailor, Petty Officer Aimee Mejia, has been arrested in Okinawa on suspicion of drunk driving. She was involved in a three-car accident injuring two people on Saturday. Before this accident, an American civilian base worker was arrested on suspicion of abandoning the body of a Japanese woman. There are plans to relocate the Futenma airbase. However, because of a series of alleged crimes by US military personnel, many residents want to see it removed.

opinion

I think that US military should take responsibility for their actions and Japanese should regard Americans in Japan not as foreign part of Japan but as a part of Japan. Indeed, not only US military but also many Japanese cause accidents like that ,so some people may say it is unfair to blame an American to such an extent. I partly agree with this idea. However, I think it is inevitable for incident by Americans to stand out because Japan is racially homogeneous and there is a complicated past between Japan and US. I think U.S military in Japan should have self-awareness that they represent US. I think the best way to solve is not so much completely to separate US base and residential area in Okinawa as to get along with each other and establish deep trust of both sides.

The injustice of Japanese car maker Suzuki

Summary
Japan officials raid Suzuki headquarters in order to test the the use of improper fuel economy. Japanese authorities investigated whether they had mean to deceive car buyers. Last month Suzuki had discrepancies in its fuel emissions and a issue that it did not apply to products sold outside of Japan. The company issued a statement that it failed to use testing methods of Japanese regulations and invest in necessary infrastructure.<

Opinion
I think that it is difficult to find injusticeof the company. Nowadays many car companies are reported the injustice one after another. Before the Suzuki, Volkswagen that is a German car company and Mitsubishi that is a Japanese car company had a problem that make a alternation of a fuel emission. It seems that their ways of doing improper reports resemble. It may get into the habit of doing so. The habit damages we consumers. Recently, Japanese car maker have had a good reputation, but it might decrease Japanese car company. They should take another look at the system of the management.

What made a Chinese teen stow away to Dubai??

Summary

A Chinese 16-year-old boy was found in the cargo of the flight EK303 on the way to Dubai from Shanghai on May 27th. He said he had heard that the beggars in Dubai make 470,000 yuan a month. So the boy was planning to become a beggar in Dubai. China Daily report said non-United Arab Emirates citizens were making fortune begging, some making 270,000 dirhams. But these ambiguous informations are just some lucky case. Rumors about Dubai is widely spreading all over the world through mainly on twitter.

Opinion

I think the most terrifying part of this article is not about boy hiding in cargo to become beggar in Dubai or how much money beggars in Dubai make a month, but about how strong SNS affects children. They easily believe everything gotten from SNS, and don’t even think about it. It is very terrifying that many children believe all the information from SNS and they forget how to think, research, and doubt the information. Parents should not allow their children get on SNS until they become old enough to understand how untrustworthy SNS is.

What made a Chinese teen stow away to Dubai?

Summary

The story we discussed is about Chinese teenager who wanted to be a beggar in Dubai. He stowed away on a plane hiding in the cargo.

He had heard beggars in Dubai could make a lot of money as a beggar.   He got the information about Dubai where people could make money as beggar, but this information wasn’t correct. Dubai police arrested a beggar who they said was making 270,000 dirhams per month, because the police carrid out campaigns to stop begging on the streets and the man was arrested as part of raid.

Finally the Chinese teenager was arrested because he had entered the country in that way illegal.

Opinion

When I read this article, I think about information. How must we deal with information?

I think there are many risks that media publish incorrect information. When publish incorrect information, people may mislead and confuse. This will be important for political decision. When people make the decision, people refer to the information that was published by media. I think this situation is very dangerous.

So people must get information from some media in order to avoid the risks. If all media tell the same information, this isn’t skeptical, but when each media tell another information, we must think “what is truth?” We can get certain information by showing each source. If the information hat trusted source, the information probably correct. The people who gets information must ascertain whether this is correct or not. On the other hand, the person who give information must tell the source in order to avoid the risks which they tell incorrect information.

Carmakers cheated the test

Summary

Last month, Suzuki said it found “discrepancies” in its fuel emissions testing, but denied it was cheating. Then, because of its wrong, Suzuki’s shares came down 3percent to 2 percent on Tokyo stock exchange. Recently, earlier this year Japan’s transport ministry raided the offices of Mitsubishi Motors, after the carmaker admitted to falsifying its fuel economy data. Last year, Volkswagen in Germany also cheated the software in its diesel vehicles.

Opinion

Not only Suzuki but also other companies cheated its fuel emissions test and installing softwares. If do that, there is some benefit for them. However, the safety of people who use that cars is not protected. It is too late that happened an accident. The customers believe in the quality of products and use them, so the companies must have a responsibility for keeping the safety of the customers. It is more important for the companies to make products thinking of customers than to make a profit. Like this company is able to become a “good” company.

Search continues for the boy after parents left him in Hokkaido mountains as punishment

Summary

The search continues for the boy who disappeared in Hikkaido mountains. The boy was first said that he got lost while his family was picking vegetables in the mountain. However, the real reason was that his parents left him for punishment. People who heard this news reacted with anger on the social media. They are also worried about the boy, because the there are no foods or water in the mountains.

Opinion

When this article was written the police were still searching the boy. However the boy was found 7 days after he was lost. When I heard that the boy was found I felt relived because if the boy was found dead there parents will be very socked and have a big damage to their hearts.

The reason why the boy was left in the mountains is because his parents wanted to punish him. I think the way they punished the boy is not good. The reason is because the parents did not look at him. If you do not look at the person you are punishing you can not know if the person is reflected on what he did. So if I punish someone I will watch if the person is reflected in what he did.

What made a Chinese teen stow away to Dubai?

Summary

On 27 May, a 16-years-old Chinese boy was found in the cargo hold of flight EK303 from Shanghai when he was hiding to go to Dubai.  As a reason of such a behavior, the boy had said he did it because he had hears beggers in Dubai could make 470,000 yuan a month.  The China Daily report said non-United Arab Emirates citizens were making fortune begging, some making 270,000 dirhams.  These ambiguous information were widely shared on Twitter-like Sina Weibo.  Against it, some online users were blaming the media for spreading rumours about riches of Dubai.

Opinion

In this article, ambiguous information midled a Chinese teenager.  These days, due to the spread of social networking services and smartphones, everyone can share information and their opinions easily.  Accompanying such tendency, anbiguous, incorrect, or intentionally distorted inmformation are flooding.  In such a situation, we should acquire media literacy.  Not accept information without question, but think it critically by own brain.  It is important to tell the difference between subjective information and objective one and not to share incorrect information.

US navel officer arrested in Okinawa for drunk driving

Summary

A US military employee was arrested on suspicion of dumping a local woman’s body.
After this accident, the curfew was given for military personnel in Okinawa. It prohibits the drinking out of base and going out after 0:00. In spite of such situation, a US Navy soldier has been arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. Now, there are plans to relocate the Futenma airbase, but after a series of alleged crimes by US military personnel, many residents want to see it removed altogether.

My opinion

The US military bases may be very noisy and scary thing for people of Okinawa. It is natural to think that they want to remove them. However, I think that the US base is necessary for the security of Japan because we don’t have military power, especially nuclear weapon. Now, the neighborhood country, China and North Korea have nuclear weapons and can aim at Japan. The deterrent by the American nuclear weapon is necessary for Japan. The presidential election is held in United States now. If Trump become the President, the Japan-U.S. alliance would be broken and US forces would withdraw from Japan. And, China will take a more provocative attitude toward Japan.
It is very bad diplomatically. I think this is difficult problem. It is ideal to build good relation between Okinawa’s people and military personnel.

US journalist and translator killed in Afghan ambush

Summary

A decorated photojournalist of National Public Radio, David Gilkey along with his translator Zabihulia Tamanna was killed by unfriendly shellfire while they were traveling with the Afghan army near the town of Marjah. He is the first US journalist to be killed in Afghan conflict, excluding those in the army. David has received numerous awards for his photography and journalism. He died pursuing his goal of allowing the public to see the reality of wars and disasters.

Opinion

It breaks my heart to see news like these which can only be described as “unlucky”. In cases like the war in Afghan, there hardly ever is a clear “evil” and “good”, which means that those who attacked the Afghan forces and consequently caused Mr. Gilkey’s death may be feeling just as guilty as the army who failed to protect him. Journalists like him are essential for bringing out the horrors of war into the public light, and his loss is huge. Counties around the world will have to come up with ways to protect non-combatants in the war area.

What made a Chinese teen stow away to Dubai?

Summary

On 27 May, Chinese teenager was founded in the cargo hold of flight EK303(Emirates Airlines) from Shanghai to Dubai. The boy had tried to stow away to Dubai because he wanted to make money there as beggar. This report has caused a conversation in China about misinformation because the teenager had heard that beggars in Dubai had been able to make 470,000 yuan($71,275) in a month and he tried to stow away. Actually, the information had reported and also shared widely on the Twitter, even though the news was incorrect. Some people said that the media should be blamed of spreading inaccurate news.

Opinion

I understand his action a little because I have ever been to Dubai and felt Dubai’s possibility of developing more and more, and people there were vital and curious to progress. However, his motive of going Dubai was come from the media’s wrong information. This is the problem! I think the media should be responsible for this. This seems small problem, but I think this issue should be the serious one because the media which basically have to tell the true news gave the false information. This rich Dubai’s news might be surprising, but why not did they tell the situation that Dubai police has carried out campaign to stop begging on the streets and some people has been already arrested because of making money excessively? Now I am interested in the media, therefore I want to think more about the media’s “real method” with this article.
