Anti-government protester cheered in Guatemala City

In the last class, we discussed the article about the political corruption in Guatemala. The summary and my opinion are as follows.

  1. The summery of this article

It became clear one after another corruption Guatemalan government officials. In Guatemala City, every day, The thousands of citizens are demonstration for request the resignation of the Otto Perez Molina president Molina. President has not been charged yet with any suspects, but people are demanding the resignation to see that he was widespread corruption.

Oswaldo Ochoa, he is 62-year-old and one of the demonstrators. he wants social, political and agricultural change. so, he was joining a growing movement of Guatemalans who have been demanding the resignation of President Otto Perez Molina.

2. My opinion

I think, this corruption, which eventually led to national bankruptcy, was rooted in political-economic collusion, speculation in real estate and the expansion of unearned income. The eradication of corruption, therefore, is not simply a matter of ethics but also a necessary component of survival in the globalized information-oriented 21st century society, and must be dealt with in depth.

And, a perfect system can be nullified and changed by a ruler’s edict, if its operators manipulate it. In achieving a society free of corruption, a strong will is more important than a fine theory or speech. A corruption -free nation cannot be established unless the leaders of the country set an example by meeting the standards of their words, keeping clean hands, and following the rule of law over their private interests.
