Around 30% of China’s Ming-era Great Wall has disappeared over time as adverse natural conditions and reckless human activities. It is so dilapidated in places that estimates of its total length vary from 9,000 to 21,000 kilometres, depending on whether missing sections are included. Despite its length, it is not, as is sometimes claimed, visible from space. Tourism and local residents’ activities are also damaging the longest human construction in the world. Poor villagers in Lulong county, in the northern province of Hebei, used to knock thick grey bricks from a section of wall in their village to build homes, and slabs engraved with Chinese characters were sold for 30 yuan each by locals. Under Chinese regulations, people who take bricks from the Great Wall can be fined up to ¥5,000, according to the state-run Global Times, but there is no specific organization to enforce the rules.

In my group, we talked about world heritage site. There are 1031 world heritage site. Then, do you agree or disagree to set up world heritage site? The value of name is big. If I travel abroad, I want to go world heritage site, for example Acropolis (Greece), Great Barrier Reef (Australia), Machu Picchu (Peru).  So I agree to set up world heritage site、and we should make an effort to protect them.

“Leather and meat without killing animals”

The other day, we watched a presentation “Leather and meat without killing animals”. In the presentation, the presenter insisted that we slaughter animals to make meat and leather, and it is not good because it will bring risks to us and our planet. Then, he suggested a new way. That is biofabrication.  This technique is that cells themselves can be used to grow biological products like tissues and organs. Already in medicine, biofabrication techniques have been used to grow sophisticated body parts, like ears, windpipes, skin, blood vessels and bone, that have been successfully implanted into patients. He told that we should begin by reimagining leather   because it is so widely used. Growing leather is also technically simpler than growing other animal products like meat. It mainly uses one cell type, and it is largely two-dimensional. It is also less polarizing for consumers and regulators.  In this sense, leather is a gateway material, a beginning for the mainstream biofabrication industry.

I agree with his opinion for 3 reasons.

Firstly, biofabrication need no sacrifice. When we make meat and leather, we slaughter animals. We make them by killing their lives. This situation is crazy. Indeed, we must eat meat to live a life, but we use leather exclusively to make themselves look dandy and smart. Then, when we make meat and lather by biofabrication, we use only a cell. Secondly, the number of population will increase, and we will have to slaughter more animals, but there is a limit of the number of animals. So we should use biofabrication.

Thirdly, if biofabricaton is spread, we can make much leather. Therefore, by the law of supply and demand, the price of leather will be lower. It is economic.

However, it will need many time for people to apply meat which is made by biofabricstion.

Yves Saint Laurent ad featuring ‘unhealthily’ thin model banned in UK

Summary
UK watchdog bans Yves Saint Laurent ad featuring model with “prominent” rib cage. The Advertising Standards Authority ruled the black-and-white image of a model in a short, black dress and platform high heels was “irresponsible.” The ad appeared in Elle UK magazine. Advertising Standards Authority upheld complaint from UK Elle magazine reader. The ad is the latest in a long line of controversies surrounding the fashion industry’s use of thin models, among them the death from anorexia of French model Isabelle Caro following a shocking ad campaign and bans on ultra-skinny models in Israel and France. Both Elle UK magazine and Yves Saint Laurent declined to comment on the ban.

Opinion
After reading, we discussed unhealthy models.I think people who read the magazine want to be like her,and they are under the impression that they are fat.Actually they aren’t fat. So,they are called “irresponsible”.Therefore,I think unhealthy models had better not strike unhealthy poses.

Hundreds of dead body were discovered buried in shallow graves in Nigerian town of Damasak this weekend. the victims included men , women and children murdered by Boko Haram when they seized the area in November, said Abubakar Kyari, a senator-elect for the region.A regional military coalition involving troops from Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon has in recent months recaptured swathes of Nigerien territory seized by Boko Haram.

【Opinion】
We discuss why terrorists exsist. I think in Africa, a gap between rich people and poor ones is bigger than that in developed countries, and a system which save poor people isn’t guaranteed fully. What’s more , the rights of people also aren’t guaranteed when they compared with developed countries. Therefore people fight for their liberty. So, we should help Africa to panish terrorisms.
