Summary

Today, we have many social networking service (SNS) and we often share information about many things with our friends or unspecified large number of people. I had thought many popular things (books, TV programs or fashion) are popular also on SNS. But, my topic says that it’s not necessarily correct. For example, The Flash, iZombie and Scream Queens (TV programs) don’t have a lot of viewers, but they were taken up on SNS so much. Many of them who watch these TV program are millennials and often they are heavy users of SNS. They watch TV and use SNS at the same time. That’s why some TV programs that are much lower in the ratings are often very popular on SNS. However some TV shows are popular in both ratings and SNS. Staffs of those programs are trying to attract people who use SNS and let them watch their programs.

 

My opinion

Recently, I often watch the news that introduce the topics taken up on SNS so much. SNS can be said to be a kind of social phenomenon. So, it will become important for staffs of TV program and editors of publishing companies to use SNS actively. Because SNS can attract many young people. Now, only some TV shows are popular in both ratings and SNS. But, I think more TV shows will become popular from SNS and attract people who are not user of SNS. SNS has possibility to be an agent that introduce new trend to people.

 

(About topic)

My topic is about mechanism of sleep. When we sleep, we repeat shallow sleep and deep sleep. The former one is called “REM sleep” and the latter one is called “non-REM sleep”.

Roughly speaking, non-REM sleep helps us to rest the brain and REM sleep helps us to recover the body. But especially, the roles of REM sleep isn’t completely understood. Then, to reveal this might help unravel the mysteries of some diseases (for example, Alzheimer or depression).

What’s the roles of REM sleep? We think deep sleep seems to be good for memory. But, actually REM sleep (when brain isn’t completely resting) is essential to fix the storage.

Today’s research found that patients with Alzheimer’s disease and depression have less Delta waves (=high amplitude which is generated in the brain during non-REMN sleep) than healthy people. And if REM sleep is deprived, delta waves gradually weakened. We can maintain a healthy thanks to the two types of sleep.

 

(Consideration)

Before reading, I had thought that we fix the storage when our brains completely sleep (non-REM sleep). It was surprising.

So, how should we sleep to fix the storage? I think when human didn’t have no electric light, most of them slept at the same time that sun goes down, and got up as sun rises. So, it is originally normal for our body and it enables to take a balance of REM sleep and non-REM sleep. But, many modern people don’t sleep enough and the time they sleep is out of step with early man. So, I think that if we can sleep enough at appropriate time, fixing the storage becomes to be easier than ever. And it perhaps leads to prevent some diseases (Alzheimer or depression).

My topic was about American politics. This topic focused on a politician Donald Trump.

Now, there are 23 candidates who are going to run for a presidential election of 2016, and in the Republican Party, Donald Trump has the highest approval rating. He is one of the powerful candidates, but current president Barack Obama dislikes him. Trump is often criticized because of his strong language. For example, he screamed abuse at other politicians or black people. And especially his opinion to immigrants is very different from that of Obama. Obama is tolerant of minority group (black people, poor people, immigrants and so on). On the other hand, Trump insists that he will build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border and deport the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in America. Because of argument like this, Obama estimates that Trump is popular now, but he won’t end up being president.

 

<My opinion>

I also think that current popularity of Trump is temporal and he will never become president. Obama became president of America in 2009. He has been on the top of USA for 7 years. So, people want something new different from Obama. It’s natural thing. And now, Trump is attracting attention because his argument is completely different from Obama. He often despises minority group or other politicians. And I think that his attitude and remark which turn many people into enemies aren’t suitable for president of one country. President have to understand lives of normal citizens or minority group. If he is on the top of USA, he should look for the way which save minority group. So, I think current popularity doesn’t lead him to become president. American citizens will notice it’s not good to choose Donald Trump.

Every day, we human kill so many animals to eat or to make various products. I think this situation is so bad from two points of view.

The first point is that human action has been breaking food chain. Human kills many animals indirectly. Slain animals by human had to be eaten by other animals. But because of human action, they have no food to eat. So, they cannot do without dying. Thus food balance is broken by human. Actually human has forced some animals to die out.

The second point is that human doesn’t feel thanks and sorry to slain animals. Human kills so many animals and throw away them without eating. If they fell sense of guilt, they should distribute relevant quantity of food to relevant area.

We human also break nature. And this action has killed many insects or animals living in forest, river or sea. If this situation continues, many living things will lose their habitats. And someday, even we human may lose our place to live with.

Like this, human action causes many terrible situation by killing animals and breaking nature. But, biofabrication may change this situation. And I think it comes true. Biofabrication can grow biological products like tissues and organs from cells. Actually in medicine, body parts like ears and bone have been grown by biofabrication techniques. This techniques will be able to be used for animal products like meat and leather. I think that one problem should be solved to infiltrate biofabrication into our lives. Probably, at first, many people will feel strange against man-made meat. So, I think it is good idea to start with leather products in order to eliminate unpleasant feelings from consumer. If leather products become popular, biofabrication foods will also be accepted by people. And biofabrication may be able to make resources like woods, too.

As expressed up until now, biofabrication is revolutionary technique. This can protect animals, nature and us. So, I think biofabrication should come in our lives as soon as possible. After all, human must improve problems caused by them by themselves.

 

 

1.summery

Our topic was about migrant who tried to go to America. Every year, a lot of people in Central America try to go to America in order to get jobs and to escape poverty. On the way to America, they have to go along Mexico. In southern Mexico, there are a lot of gangs. They often attack migrants and force them to give money or to join gang. And in June 2015, the bus in which there are many migrants was attacked by gang. They used force and tried to plunder money. Fortunately, many migrants could manage to escape from gang and they hid around a hill. But after that, police captured them by mistake. After all, police couldn’t capture any gang members.

2.my opinion

Through this topic, I want to think about migrant. Migrant is the big problem in Central America. Almost all migrants are in the situation that they have no choice except for leaving their countries because of poverty. And the governments of many Central American countries don’t afford to support them. So, I think developed countries should support migrants (in terms of jobs, money, residence and so on) and make mechanism in which eventually migrants can go back to their countries and make a living. If it comes true, the number of migrants will decrease, and the countries will become wealthier than before.

Our topic has major two points to be considered. The first point is about withdrawal of UK from EU, and the second point is about right to join referendum.

《referendum》

Among member nations of EU, it is being argued that whether Britain should be in EU or out of EU. And at last, prime minister of Britain, David Cameron promised to hold a referendum by the end of 2017. Should Britain leave from EU or be in EU? The most important purpose of EU is to keep peace in European countries by connecting them closely. So, I think member nations of EU should try to prevent Britain from being out of EU. If UK leaves from EU, conflict between UK and other EU countries will get deeper and deeper.

《right to vote》

It was decided to do referendum by the end of 2017, but some of  people in UK don’t have the right to vote. For example, UK-based citizens from most EU countries don’t have the right to vote, while irish citizens in the UK and residents from two other EU nations-Malta and Cyprus are eligible. The result of referendum will be concerned with lives of all people living in UK. So, I think all people in UK should have the right to vote. And then they can find the real answer of “referendum”.

Our topic was about “criticism of preparations for Rio de Janeiro Olympic”. In this topic, preparations for Rio de Janeiro Olympic are criticized severely. The reason wasn’t written, but I can guess it. That’s why TV news and newspapers often say that construction of stadium, subway and other facilities is incredibly delayed. If this situation continues, it must be so difficult to hold Olympic normally. In this situation, pressure to organization of Olympic has been steadily growing. So, I think that organization of Olympic has to resolve this situation as early as they can. In 2014 FIFA World Cup, Brazil couldn’t improve infrastructure. So, it is expected that many countries have held ill feelings toward Brazil. Losing credit influences a lot of things (diplomacy, trade and friendship with other countries so on). That is to say, success of Olympic decides future of Brazil.

By the way, in 2020, Olympic game is held in Tokyo. Sometimes, news or newspapers say that organization of Tokyo Olympic has not decided operating budget yet. For example, national stadium was shut in 2014, but construction of new national stadium hasn’t been started. We have 5 more years before Olympic. Not to lose credit of this country, Japan has to be sure to success Olympic. Rio de Janeiro Olympic plays important role as negative example.
