I agree with Andras Forgacs’ idea so I want to discuss that how the food from biofabrication is accepted by the world community as safety and delicious food. First, human beings believe that animals most be killed for their food. In fact, all animals have their own “one life”. In the first place, the opinion that human beings cannot be killed, but all the other animals can be preyed on is very strange and awful. If the food from biofabrication is safety and nutritious, human beings have to eat them to save the animals. On the other hand, people have to consider an importance of lives and educate children to give them an appreciation of food from animals’ lives. Second, they think that the food from and leathers from biofabrication is dangerous for them. Genetically modified foods, became recently a problem, made resistance to non-natural foods stronger. This problem is not able to solved without authentic proof. Only way to convince people to eat non-natural food is testing safety by experiment. We have to give proof the safety of leathers at first, and after get the proof of leathers’ safety, give proof that of food, because the things that taken into our mouth is more important than clothes. Third, we have to commercialize the advantages of using the food and leathers, for example, preventing to cause the illnesses, to use a lot of water, to produce waste. In addition, because of being easy to control property, they can respond to many expectations. This is very efficient and humanitarian way to solve food problem. Therefore, if we tell people that, all the people will agree with this opinion. In conclusion, we have to help and agree this project to save our “sustainable benefits”.

The former president Ricardo Martinelli denied the prosecutor’s allegation that he inflated multi-million dollar contracts. He consisted that this is a political vendetta with Mr. Varela, was elected last year by campaigned on a promise to clean up the corruptions. The former Vice-President Felipe Virzi received $10m for making huge irrigation system. However this system was not made this money have not returned yet.

According to TV news, I know Japanese corruption problems. This problem become a big news because of the rareness of it. However, in Centre America, many corruption problems cause every day. This is nothing out of the ordinary. Suprisingly, Centre American politicians sometimes connect with Mafia. In this news, only $10m is lost, but there is potential of being lost human life. This is the fact and this is very dengerous.

In this TED speech, a scientist named Andres Forgacs introduces a new technology called “biofablication”. Biofablication is a way to make animal products such as meat or leather by growing animal’s cells. He strongly argues that this technology will save millions of land animals’ lives that are currently raised and killed for making animal products.
He emphasizes the need of this technology by statistically showing the current and future situation. According to the data he showed, today, 60 billions of land animals are maintained to provide people’s meat, dairy, eggs, and leather goods. As the
world population expands to 10 billion by 2050, the number of land animals we need will be 100 billion.
Utilizing this technology not only saves land animal’s lives, but also saves land, fresh water and greenhouse gases which has been used for livestock.
Moreover, by deciding the number of layers we use for biofablicate leather, it will be possible to change the characteristics of the leather. This means that the softness, breathability or durability can be changed as we want to.
When I first watched this TED presentation, I was amazed by this new technology and was inspired by his basic belief that land animals are not just raw materials but living things.
However, as I thought about it further, I found some disadvantages of this technology.
First of all, there will be value differences. Although the quality of the products made by biofablication is as same as or even better than that of the products made by actual killing, there will be people who prefer things made though killing the animals. Those people may think that those products made by grown tissue is not “real” and may refuse to buy biofablicated materials. Thus the value of the products will be decreased toward some people.
Second, the safety as a food may become controversial. Like genetically modified foods, the safety of the food is always a topic toward this kind of topic. Even though its safety was scientifically verified, there is a possibility that people still refuse to eat biofablicated meat.

I am against producing skin using bio fabrication and creating human-produced edible meat for the three reasons.
Firstly, I do not believe that creating living things is the right thing to do this is because I believe that animals are sacred. I am not a Christian, and I trust modern technology, but in this case, I have a similar way of thinking to the Christians. I cannot imagine ourselves in the future buying food and leather products that are produced in laboratory. Living things should be respected and should be taken in good care, and therefore should not be made just for the use of making products for humans.
Secondly, by using bio fabrication, the natural food chain is likely to break, causing the balance in the ecosystem to collapse. Even slightest difference made in the balance of the ecosystem can cause much influence to the mankind. Even until this day, many technology improvements has caused a bad influence to us. These dangers con only be known once it has actually be used. Bio fabrication is no different.
Finally, I believe that eating and using man-made cells will affect the human body in a bat way. It is impossible to completely get rid of the errors that many occur when the cells split. The cells that split in the wrong way will be replicated and if this goes into the human body, this will definately have a bad influence in the human body believe that food and materials made by bio fabrication should only be used when the risk of creating new diseases and accidents are close to zero.
Biofabrication
The speaker suggests applying new technology which is called biofabrication. This technology can make meat or leather artificially, so we don’t need to kill animals to get them. He insists that it is wasteful and crazy to kill animals for food and clothing.
I welcome this new technology. From the view point of coping with the problem of water shortage or global warming in the future, biofabrication gives our society various possibility. Our livestock is one of the largest users of land, fresh water and also one of the biggest producers of greenhouse gases. As he says, next few decades we will need 100 billion animals for our meat. Supplementing our food with products of biofabrication is good idea, we don’t need to increase the number of animals.
But I disagree with the idea that all natural meat should be replaced with meat made by biofabrication. I have two reasons to support my idea.
First is the problem of culture and history. Human beings have been eating animals for long time in our history. There are many cultures in the world, and each culture has each idea for eating animals. These food culture are often related to their history or religions. This is very complex problem. Forcing to eat meat made by biofabrication is a little arrogant.
Second, I want to pick up the feeling of “thank”. Of course, killing animals is cruel thing. I feel sorry when I watch TV where animals are killed to make our food, and that’s why we appreciate eating them and try not to waste them. I think the feeling of “thank” is very important feeling for us. If people only eat food made by biofabrication, they would forget the feeling of “thank” because you can get food any time if you only have money. You don’t have to appreciate to eat them.

I think that killing animal is not bad things,if we thank to the animals.Life on earth has evolved and exists in ecosystems.Healthy ecosystems are necessary for the survival of life on earth as we know it.Ecosystems consist of living and non-living components.These connect in various and complex ways.The living components react with and against each other.They utilize each other as sources of energy and matter.And They interact with,and modify,their non-living environments. Such are the basic realities of life on earth. These realities provide the life process with drive and direction,so killing animals is a part of a food chain.But,killing too much is bad.We must thank to all life and respect it.plants are lives,animals are lives,and we people are lives.All are lives,so if we respect other lives,we can killing them and enjoy them.
However,we arrived at next stages.We can enjoy a lot of things without killing or damaging animals.That is marvelous.Scientific developments have enormously affected society and economics. Biofabrication technique
Andras Forgas suggested making leather and meat by the means of biofabrication. Today, we kill animals in order to get leather and meat, but if we could use this technology, we don’t need to kill them anymore. This has various meanings. First, we protect environment, because animals are one of the most consumers of land and fresh water, and they also produce huge amounts of greenhouse gasses which promote global warming. Second, Biofabrication is a industry, which is humanitarian, sustainable and the promise of expansion. For exaple, biofabrication is successful in medicine. Finally, we could be more creative. we could apply biofabrication to various fields.
I think that his idea is creative and innovative. So far, we can’t help killing animals in order to get leather and meat. It is true that this action is so cruel, but in order to survive, we have no choice but to kill animals.
I agree with his idea. I think that biofabrication is better way to get leather and meat than we do today. I have two reasons.
First, as he say, killing animals brings a lot of problems such as the environment. we, human, are a member of the earth, so we must protect the environment for the future.
Second, killing animals as resource is bad deeds not only in ethics but also in science. Animals are creature, as with human. Is it okay to kill animals and not okay to kill human? What is the difference between them? I think that there are no clear answers. Human and animals are equally creature.
Then for example, we know BSE, which is an epidemic disease. It is caused by cow meat and bone meal. However, the meat made by biofabrication is safer. At first, we would be hesitate to eat the meat, but we would get used to eat the meat little by little.
Leather and meat without killing animals
First of all, I agree to use this technology.
Population is growing rapidly in less developed countries, and it is said that it will lead to food shortage. I think the best solution is to mass produce the artificial meat. If the scientists can make this in low-cost, and large quantities, it will be suitable for less developed countries which there aren’t enough food nor money. Also they will get better nutrients than before. It might be possible for poor people who can’t eat enough foods and are lacking nutrients to eat artificial meat. We can say the same thing in leather industry. If we can make fake leather imitating rare animals, it can stop the extermination of those. In near future, we might be eating something inorganic which only includes essential nutrients, like in SF story or astronaut do in space. This is far more efficient than eating organic foods like vegetable and meat. We definitely need this technology in order to make enough food for increasing population. However, this way of eating is completely different to our current eating habit. We have the liberties to enjoy eating food like we do now. If it changes to eating only tablets that are full or nutrients, it means human can not eat in the way human do and human is losing humanity. This will lead to losing our dignity. I think artificial meats can stave off this change.
But it is true that it’s inefficient to feed cattle that consume a lot of water and oxygen. It is unsure if we still need feed them when we have global warming problem. Moreover, I think again paradoxically the foregoing opinion, this technology could lead to stimulate implementation of neo-futuristic foods. If we can make animal protein artificially, is it necessary to shape it like a real meat? It is easier to include those protein into energy bars but this can lead to losing humanity.
So I welcome such technologies, but we should maintain skeptical stances.
Making leather and meat as disired
Andras Forgacs, the speaker, suggested a plan of making leather andmeat without killing animals.
I think Andras showed us a revolutionary and marvelous idea. I agreehim for the most part. I have three reasons for this.
First, it is a method that doesn’t provoke ethical problems. Thereare a lot of people who don’t eat meat, particular meat or all types of meat, for religious and cultural reasons. Meat is a delicious food so Andras’s idea probably brings them happiess.
Second, it is an environmentally friendly method. The world’spopulation is growing so we need to maintain more and more animals. It creates a breeding ground for disease and opportunities for harm and abuse. At once diseases go around human, it may kill millions of people. The other problem which the enormous amount of animals provoke is the global warming. The global warming is a big problem that even embroils each country’s governments. We mustn’t increase the number of animals which are the big producers of greenhouse gases. Another problem is the animals use land, food, fresh water. Lack of such sources especially causes people in developing countries pain. Maintaining enormous amount of animals causes many problems so we need an alternative plan. And in fact, Andras’s plan is effective.
Finally, leather which can be made by his idea have desirablequalities. If we can make leather as we like, that’s a wonderful thing. And to begin with prevailing leather is effective to prevail the technology of making meat among the world.
ButI have a point to refer to the idea. We don’t need to be so much sensitive to kill animals. In our long history, we killed lots of animals and ate or wore them. And we kill not only cows or pigs but also fish. Isn’t it a bad thing? To live, killing animals is not a wrong way. (309 words)
How we solve the problem to kill animals for living
We human beings live with many other creatures on earth. We have long been killing animals and fishes for food and many other purposes, and some have extinct or nearly extinct because of human beings. In Japan, vegetarians are said to be only around 9.2 percent of the population and the others eat meat. The more we consume, the more we have to raise the animals. To support the growing population, we have to raise more than 100 billion farm animals. This is definitely bad for the environment. However, this problem can be addressed by breeding.
For many decades, human have been studying breeding. A good example of breeding is the chickens made by Kentucky Fried Chicken. If you think about raising the chickens only for the purpose of eating them, you don’t need their eyes or feathers. KFC’s research teams succeeded in breeding them into eye-less, and feather-less chickens. Despite the creepy looks, they are well optimized. Learning from this example, breeding is a good way to address this problem. One solution I recommend is to breed animals that eat less, or doesn’t eat at all. A creature called Bathynomus Giganteus, is said to be able to live without eating for 5 years. By studying its DNAs, I assume that we will be able to make animals that don’t have to eat much. This is not only good for the environment but also good because the cost of raising animals would be much lower. As we saw in the video of Andras Forgacs, people already succeeded in creating artificial meat or leather. Therefore, I assume it is possible to make it.
We human beings cannot just keep on raising and killing animals. Since our biological technology has developed, I consider that we should breed animals into more efficient animals.
