Tokyo Olympics to generate up to 30 trillion yen for economy

[Summary]
Recently, the infrastructure investment has been increasing and more foreign tourists has been spending money in Japan. Taking it into account, the Bank of Japan expects that profits of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics reach 25 trillion yen to 30 trillion yen from 2014 to 2020. It is said that Japan’s gross domestic product rises by around 1 percent by 2018 by sporting events. Moreover, the Tokyo Olympics is good chance for Japanese companies to advertise their products. It generates new consumption and makes a good impact on Japanese economy.

[Opinion]
I think there are 5 main economic effests by the Tokyo Olympics. First, the construction of the stadium and related facilities will promote more employment. More salaries revitalize consumption. Second, special procurements related to the Olympics will occur. For example, people who want to watch competitions with a television of better picture quality replaced old television with a new one and goods related to the Olympics such as mascots are sold. Third, Foreign tourists will spend much money in Japan. BOJ said that 33 million tourists would visit Japan in 2020 if the current pace of increase continued. Tourism is an important market for Japanese economy. Forth, expenses spending sports will increase. While the Olympic takes place, many sponsors related to sports advertise their products and watching each event of sports motivates people to try new sports, so Japanese companies can get benefits. The other is the economic effects after the Olympics. If the Olympics succeed, an impression of Japan will improve. Now, all the countries of the world have bad image because of the earthquake and the nuclear power plant disaster. However, Japan can get trust from other countries and more foreign tourists visit Japan if Japan prove safety through the Olympics. I think the biggest purpose of the Tokyo Olympics is to improve the image of Japan. In addition, the opening celemony is the opportunity which shows Japanese traditional culture and the noble sprit “omotenashi”. The Tokyo Olympics isn’t goal, so Japanese government should consider the scheme leading to the deveropment of Japanese economy after that.

Phones need ‘bed mode’ to protect sleep

Summary

The blue light is the most powerful energy in the visible light. It disturbs the production of the hormone melatonin which promotes sleep. Every new model of smartphone is bigger and blighter, so it emits more blue light. Actually smartphones and tablets are convenient in the day, but they have a bad effect on people’s sleep at night. Therefore, manufactures of phones should invent the setting which removes blue light automatically like ‘bed mode’ to protect sleep.

Opinion
The blue light has some harmful influence on our bodies. For example, as we use a computer or a smartophone long time, our eyes get exhausted because our eyes react the blue light excessively. This is one cause of falling eyesight. Recently, products which cut the blue light such as glasses are sold everywhere. A software ‘f.lux’ adjusts the coloring of display screen depending on time for free. Of course, using these goods or service is one way. However, self-control is more important. We should be careful not to watch TV too much in the evening or not to use smartphone before going to bed. Smartphones and tablets are indispensable to our daily lives, so we need use them wisely.

China’s economy is stumbling, but by how much?

[Summary]
China’s economy had grown up at the average rate of 10% for three decades, but last year it was 7.4% and for next year IMF estimates 6.8%. In other words, Chinese economy has deterionated greatly. One of the factors for economic decline is the ageing of Chinese population. Workers who support the remarkable growth has decreased. Limit of technical development also cause economic stagnation.
Investment has held up the great growth. At present, however, it is too excessive because people invest without spending money. Overinvestment is dangerous and China’s economy has great impact on world market, so we need pay attention to unstable economy in China.

[Opinion]

On October 29, Chinese government decided to abolish “a one-child policy” within the year. The policy has been carried out over 30 years and the purpose of abolition is increasing of the workfirce population. Therefore, a growth rate may recover.
However, I think China has another problem. Chinese dramatic growth doesn’t accompanies with the real economy. For example, even if a real estate company sells an apartment and investers buy it, without a borrower, inveters can’t make a profit and economy don’t become active. In China, at a glance, economic growth is going on. But, actually, Chinese market stagnates.

Can artificial products replace natural products?

In the world, human beings breed and kill many animals. Maintaining a mass of animals causes global warming or water shortage. And killing living beings seems to be inhumane. Then, Andras Forgacs, who is an entrepreneur in tissue engineering, introduced biofabrication in the presentation. Biofabrication is the most advanced technology that grows biological products like tissues and organs by using cells. He believes the safety of leather and meat made from cells. An artificial leather has beautiful pattern without insect’s bites and an artificial meat is hygiene and doesn’t have virus causing disease such as a food poisoning. Biofabrication makes it possible to produce goods or foods efficiently without animal sacrifices.

Killing animals in itself isn’t unethical because human beings have hunted animals to wear a fur and to eat meat for about two millions years. However, in modern times, people take it for granted to use goods and eat foods produced by killing. They don’t have gratitude for animals and they also raise livestock more and more without thinking over. It is human’s selfishness that is actually inhumane.
I think the artificial product can’t replace every real animal’s product. Let me explain about synthetic leather similar to a leather made by biofabrication. Lately, it already has been sold generally. It is cheaper than a natural leather. Therefore, many consumers want goods of artificial leather. In deed, however, real products as added-value are also much in demand. One feature of name-brand product is natural and this product is meaningless and worthless if it isn’t real. Moreover, there are many people who demand a product having scarcity value such as a stuff. The more the price of artificial goods decreases, the more the value of real things increases. If bodies of animals are traded at a high price, the animals may be killed by more inhumane and illegal way.
Thus, the technology may not reduce the breeding and the killing of animals perfectly. Of course biofabrication is great invention and we should make use of it effectively. But, if the products made by biofabrication come into the market, the international organizations should regulate the transaction of animal products on the market or prepare a system and a rule for protecting animals. In short, it is necessary to consider some measures for the practial appplication of biofabrication.

Right group condemns Myanmar Bill on Interfaith Marriage

Two bills passed through Myanmar’s parliament. One is The Buddhist Women’s Special Marriage Bill which prohibit a marriage between different religious people. International human right group criticizes these laws as discriminatory. The other is The Population Control Health Care Bill. The purpose of this law is ostensibly to stop an increase of poor people but actually, there is a fear of sterilization and abortion. Moreover, two undecided bills provoke criticism. One is Monogamy Bill and the other is The Religious Conversion Bill which force people to apply to Registration Board for change of religion. These bills connect the act which have stirred up anti-Muslim hatred.

By carring out of these laws, minor ethnic group especially Rohingya Muslims are discriminated more and more in Myanmar. It is easy to say that religious discrimination should not be allowed undoubtedly and ruling party lawmakers are wrong. However, it’s hard to solve this problem because religious conflict has long history and is deep-rooted in Myanmar. The majority in Myanmar, Buddhist, may not oppose the legislation. Then, International organization such as UN which has great impact on the world should condemn and take action. Religious discrimination happens not only in Myanmar but also all over the world and everyone should think this serious problem.
On 11th July, National League for Democracy (NLD) which Aung San Suu Kyi leads declared participation in general election after 25 years absence, which would be taken place in November. NLD has made an effort to gain rights of minor ethnic group. Therefore religious problem would become an important and essential factor of NLD manifesto.

All forms of medical marijuana are legal, Canadian court rules.

The last class, we talked about legalization of medical marijuana in Canada and discussed the case that medical marijuana are legal in Japan.

【Summary】
The Canadian Supreme Court has ruled not only dried marijuana but also Cannabis (marijuana) oil are legal because prohibiting non-dried forms of marijuana is “contrary to the principle of fundamental justice.” Medical marijuana is effective for curing disease such as seizures, HIV and nausea. Therefore The Supreme Court said that prohibition of marijuana disturbed the purpose to protect safety and health.

【Opinion】
The Canadian Supreme Court which concluded that medical marijuana was lawful is right because previous ragulation was surely arbitrary.
In case Japanese government deregulates marijuana, I agree legalization of medival marijuana provided that there are three following situations. Firstly, there is no way to treat one disease except medical marijuana. Secondly, marijuana convinces everyone that there is no danger and they can understand advantages of marijuana. Finally, the Diet establish an obvious standard between medical marijuana and merijuana for relaxation in order not to bring drug abuse. In short, lighthearted amendment of law of narcotics control isn’t good. More detailed investigation and minute research for efficacy of marijuana are need because it is difficult to regulate the law which was once legal again. Therefore at present there is conflict between ayes and nays and marijuana isn’t legalized in Japan. Marijuana may effect on our bodies good or bad. It is necessary for everyone to positively understand marijuana.

South Africa opposition elects Maimane first black leader

South Africa’s main opposition party, the Democratic Alliance (DA), elected its FIRST BLACK leader, Mmusi Maimane. Mr. Maimane promised cheering supporters that the DA would win power and lashed out at the South African President, Jacob Zuma, who is the member of African National Congress (ANC), over corruption allegations. However, critics will now say that his age, 34, is too young and inexperienced to deserve the position and that his swift ascent may be the ostensible election.
The event may lower a degree of the association between politics and race. ANC is supported by black people who are overwhelming majority in South Africa and DA has a support base in white. In short, a conflict of ins versus outs has meant black versus white. This time, DA put up the first black leader to get black supporters by sweeping away the image of “white” party. As politics and race are fenceless, materials for judging will be each manifest and degree of contribution to nation. These Materials enables politics to be independent from racial discrimination. The article says that the election smacks of racial tokenism. At present, however, no one can judge it because whether DA remains same as it was or becomes the party supported by people of various races depend on Mr. Maimane’s future activities. Generally, it is thought that black is discriminated, and yet, “DA may carry out the policy to white’s advantage because it is the party FOR WHITE who once had benefitted from apartheid.” This view may be also a kind of racial prejudice. Therefore the nation of South Africa is required to the competence to understand policy enough and judge good and evil rightly without racial prejudice though it is difficult to remove bias completely because bias is subconscious and deep-rooted.
