Madonna’s deeply emotive performance

In the last class, we talked about the article “Madonna gives surprise Paris street performance in place de la Republique”.

On December 9, Madonna gave surprise performance and sang some songs in place of Republican where is the place for mourning for the dead of the victims by synchronized terrorists attacks. The reason that she did so was the terrorists’ demand was to make her and her audience be silence, so she wanted to confront them. She broke into tears and explained this reason at a concert held after the Paris attacks.

After reading this article, I thought that Madonna’s decision and action was right. She claimed how terrible and cruel the terrorists’ act was. Recently, many young people are apathetic about politics. They are not interested in the politics of their own countries. They are tend to think those problems as other people’s affairs and think lightly. However, young people should have more interests in politics and consider those problems more seriously. Those who will make the future world are present young people. To make the world more peaceful and more comfortable, it is necessary and important to raise the young to be thoughtful and smart adults. I think Madonna’s behavior was admirable and inspiring the hearts of many people in the world.

3D printing becomes more useful

In the last class, we talked about “3D print extra bits for old objects to help extend their life.

Recently, it is said that 3D printing is going to change the world. 3D printing is used to make new objects, but thanks to a new technology, this system is also used to augment and repair things we already own. Augmenting and repairing save material and energy, so this use is admirable. 3D printing is not yet general, but it is expected to spread over the world soon, and more than a million will be sold in 2017.

Reading this article, I felt uneasy about spread of 3D printing. Certainly, this technology is useful. However, the spread of this useful tool means that the risk of abusing becomes higher and higher. Some may use this system to produce guns illegally. Moreover, we can make everything by ourselves by using 3D printing, so no one will buy things from manufactories or companies. It is not necessary for people to buy products because we can make them by using 3D printing. Then, I think every products will unsold, and economy will stagnate and stop. New technologies always make our daily lives more convenient, but we have to turn our eyes not only to the good side but also to the bad one. It can be said that 3D printing is “double-edged sword”. I am very excited about this future evolution, but I must not forget the potential implications on society and demerits of this system.

The migrant problem in Germany

Our topic was “Merkel marks 25 years of unified Germany with migrant plea.”

In the last class, we talked about the migrant problem in Germany. German Chancellor Angela Merkel has marked the 25th anniversary of German reunification by urging a unified response to Europe’s migrant crisis. Then, a ceremony was hold in Frankfurt’s cathedral and he said there that Germany should solve the migrant problem with other European countries. He agreed with the acceptance for migrants from Syria or Iraq in order to show their power as political leaders to the world.

I think that Germany should accept refugees from other countries. It is because Germany is a big country and has a lot of money now. However, it is the truth that there are many people who are against this acceptance because of the fear that German traditional employment system may be destroyed. German government has to treat this problem carefully and adopt the best way for the people. On the other hand, I think Japan should not accept migrants. There is a huge number of people who cannot get jobs. If many refugees immigrate to Japan, more people will face the difficulty finding employment. Moreover, there are many other problems we have to solve as soon as possible in Japan. If Japan become more big and developed country in the future, we should accept migrants.

Leather and meat without killing animals

Do you think it is moral to kill animals for food and clothing? Today, we maintain a global herd of 60 billion animals to provide our meat, dairy, eggs and leather goods. Moreover, the more the world’s population expands, the more animals we will need. However, maintaining those animals is a burden to our planet because they need a large amount of land or water and produce mass greenhouse gases. Then, there is a new way of creating materials without killing animals. This is biofabrication that cells themselves can be used to grow products like tissues and organs. This way is environmentally responsible, efficient and humane as an alternative way, and it is said that we should begin with leather because growing leather uses only one cell type and be very simple. Andras insists biofabrication should become more general and be appreciated as a more beneficial way.

In my opinion, I agree with this way. I have some reasons. First, the products made in this way are not harmful for our body. Those who are opposed to this way will have images that goods and foods made by biofabrication are imitations, so they may have bad effect on our health. However, it is a safe way and those products have the same function, shame and appearance. Second, this way will lead to cost reduction in the future. Nowadays, we use a lot of money to maintain mass of animals, for example, water, feed and land. However, if we take biofabrication, there is no need to use such a massive cost. I think we should make efficient use of this replacement. Rejecting this proposal is very wasteful. Finally, animals are living things as the same as us. All forms of life have rights to live and the same value. No one can kill and waste on other lives. It is moral. From these reasons, I believe that biofabrication will be a good way not only for animals but also for ourselves.

What a dangerous place Guatemala is

Our topic was “Guatemala arrests 3 in killings o 2 journalists.”

In the last class, we talked about an accident in Guatemala. On March 10, two journalists were killed in a park in the southern municipality of Mazatenango. These two journalists were the top of the Press Association and they were going to publish an article criticizing a local mayor who had made death threats. In spite of these threats, they had filed a complaint, so the local mayor asked police to kill those two journalists. However, the Guatemalan government assessed this issue was the worst incident and arrested the killers.

Recently, there are many countries that are very dangerous for journalists because of the lowness of the freedom of publication. Many journalists have been killed by police or government for occupations. Guatemala is one of those countries which has a low grade in a ranking of freedom of the press. In those counties, the power of the government and police are so strong that the ordinary people get more secured legitimate rights. I think that all of the citizens should be preserved every right for living. All people are made equally and the same. Some must not have much more power than others, so more journalists should transmit more information about the naked truth to let all the citizens know the real and to realize more safety world.

Greece cannot afford IMF repayment

Our topic was “financial control of Greece”.

In the last class, we talked about Greece debt crisis. Greece is a European poor country, so they cannot help getting money from IMF and EU to avoid breaking down and have to get along with those institutions to secure the final tranche of its bailout. However, although Greece had worked hard to meet its end of the deal with lenders, Greece couldn’t have paid back their debt by the deadline. What is worse, Greece needs more help from IMF and EU. If it fails to come to a deal with its partners, IMF and EU may halt their help to Greece. This situation could push the Greek government towards leaving the single currency, and Greece has been struggling to pay debt, public sector wages and pensions.

Through this article, I think that the Greek finance is under the control of other countries or organizations and Greece can’t break out of this situation as long as they depend on help from lenders. However, it must be impossible for Greece to achieve complete repayment, and if those helps are stopped, it will lead to financial bankruptcy. I think it is a vicious cycle that can’t be broken off and will keep happening every time the deadline of repayment comes close.

A picture from Brazil’s subway system

Our topic was “Why this picture from Brazil’s subway system isn’t what it seems.”

In the last class, we talked about a picture which was taken by a Brazilian commuter in Rio de Janeiro and posted on his Facebook page. This picture showed Brazil’s subway system, and the post had more than 16,000 likes. It was because a couple of lesbian embracing on the platform was in this picture, and many people must have thought that the post was concerned with Homosexuality. However, actually, what he wanted to say was a man in the background who had his foot over the yellow line. He wanted to warn how this behavior was dangerous and irresponsible. Moreover, he advocated that it was not good for children to disturb social conventions.

From this article, I thought that many people have prejudiced views against Homosexuality. Although, waiting for the subway on the yellow line is too much worse than being a homosexual, all eyes were focused upon the embracing two women instead of the man violating a rule, unconsciously. It is because there is discrimination against Homosexuality.
I don’t have a sense of discrimination against those who are homosexual as this author does not. First, being homosexual doesn’t lead to anyone’s death. On the other side, disturbing social order may lead to a tragedy or someone’s death. Second, to behave as a homo in private is freedom of expression. In conclusion, for these reasons, I think many Brazilian should turn their eyes toward not those girls but the offender against the rules. Many people all over the world have to care about their social conventions more and more.
