What a dangerous place Guatemala is

Our topic was “Guatemala arrests 3 in killings o 2 journalists.”

In the last class, we talked about an accident in Guatemala. On March 10, two journalists were killed in a park in the southern municipality of Mazatenango. These two journalists were the top of the Press Association and they were going to publish an article criticizing a local mayor who had made death threats. In spite of these threats, they had filed a complaint, so the local mayor asked police to kill those two journalists. However, the Guatemalan government assessed this issue was the worst incident and arrested the killers.

Recently, there are many countries that are very dangerous for journalists because of the lowness of the freedom of publication. Many journalists have been killed by police or government for occupations. Guatemala is one of those countries which has a low grade in a ranking of freedom of the press. In those counties, the power of the government and police are so strong that the ordinary people get more secured legitimate rights. I think that all of the citizens should be preserved every right for living. All people are made equally and the same. Some must not have much more power than others, so more journalists should transmit more information about the naked truth to let all the citizens know the real and to realize more safety world.

Central American migrants are kidnapped by Mexican gangs

In the last class we learned that migrants from Central America countries are attacked by armed gangs in Mexico. Migrants are moving from Central America to the US to find jobs. The gangs are armed and stop the migrant’s bus. They demand them a ransom and if they could not pay, they kidnap and recruit them as members of the gang. Despite this situation, the police of Mexico have not arrested any member of the gang. This is because the migrants are fighting with gangs to be free and the police cannot exactly distinguish which are the gangs. Actually, several times the police arrested from 37 to 100 innocent migrants by mistake.

I think this is a big problem in Mexico. If this state continues, the Mexican gangs will be bigger and bigger. It should be solved immediately. My opinion is that the Mexican government should assist migrants to use the sea route by preparing ships or protecting them from pirates. Also the US government should prepare to accept foreign workers by strengthening Spanish education, for example. I think this problem is solved only after each country of American continent cooperate with each other.

Bomb Threat at US Embassy in San Jose, Costa Rica

1. Summary

There was bomb threat at US Embassy in San Jose, Costa rica.

After that threat US Embassy initiated the building’s security protocols and vacated perimeter of Embassy. All meetings were on hold until this threat be cleared.

One man who said that threats and security shutdowns were normal and it is more common when the US have strained relations with other country, like the Middle East.

In 1986, the bomb detonated on the Embassy’s ground by three Panamanian. the blast caused minor structural damage and injured three people.

U.S citizens wish to stay up known all security information while here in Costa Rica. There is a service called the STEP that send occasional emails about the safety conditions of Costa Rica to travelers and expats. Also, STEP help family and friends get in touch with you in case of emergency.

 

2. My Opinion

There are a lot of threat to Embassy U.S and many countries. Embassy have to prepare for the terrorism. I think there is two way to be prepared.

Firstly, intensify security of Embassy like increasing guards. this way when the terrorist approach to the embassy, it would be more difficult.

Secondly, to give a security service like STEP. it can release citizens’s fear.

I think increasing security service like STEP is better. Because the second way give more importance to safety of citizen than the first way. Guarding citizens is what embassy have to do.

The policy of government

This article show us the Indifference of government to agricultural and policies. Oswaldo Ochoa the man of article started the hunger strike to criticize the policy. His action is inspired by Gandhi. He is 62 year old, the Guatemala City cheered him.

The government made some policies with settled budget. The budge is made by people’s taxes, and the taxes originally must be the part of worker’s income.

Food is must needed element for people save their life, and it come from agriculture. We need to think what bring us if a policy works to agriculture badly.

The practitioners of agriculture’s mount of paying taxes doesn’t change and, income is kept decreasing if government make new policy for them. Instability of agriculture brings increase the importing the food from foreign country because of situation that country can not supply food from local. It will result in financial depression of the country.

I think that there was some reasons for government have to choose like these. But, they need to attitude that see the future for making good society. Because the government exist for the profit of people and country.

Think about migrant through the trouble in southern Mexico.

1.summery

Our topic was about migrant who tried to go to America. Every year, a lot of people in Central America try to go to America in order to get jobs and to escape poverty. On the way to America, they have to go along Mexico. In southern Mexico, there are a lot of gangs. They often attack migrants and force them to give money or to join gang. And in June 2015, the bus in which there are many migrants was attacked by gang. They used force and tried to plunder money. Fortunately, many migrants could manage to escape from gang and they hid around a hill. But after that, police captured them by mistake. After all, police couldn’t capture any gang members.

2.my opinion

Through this topic, I want to think about migrant. Migrant is the big problem in Central America. Almost all migrants are in the situation that they have no choice except for leaving their countries because of poverty. And the governments of many Central American countries don’t afford to support them. So, I think developed countries should support migrants (in terms of jobs, money, residence and so on) and make mechanism in which eventually migrants can go back to their countries and make a living. If it comes true, the number of migrants will decrease, and the countries will become wealthier than before.

Mixed Signals at US Border with Mexico

In the last class, we discussed the article about the immigrants in the Mexican city. The summary and my opinion are as follows.

1, Summery

Since last October, about 10,000 children without a parent have entered the United States. They hope their families will be able to join them. The number of Central Americans arrested at the U.S. border, but they were released and told to return at a later because there was no room to detain them.

Sister Norma Pimentel in McAllen has been dealing with the Central American immigrants. She operates a center for Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley. Recently, the center helped 70 immigrants in one day. Some possible timing for people to cross the border is weather conditions, school schedules, and criminal activity.

2, My Opinion

I think it is very difficult to solve this kind of problem and they need fundamental solution. U.S. should enhance the cooperation with the countries which poor people exist. On the other hand, they should exercise stricter control over  illegal immigrant.

I suggest the policy to improve in it. The governments establish the system that immigrants get an education, work, and skill in the country which accept immigrant, then return to their country for develop of their hometown. I think most important thing for this problem is education for children in the countries which poor people exist for the country’s future. They should not only financial support but also some support not to increase the number of immigrants.

Mixed Signals at US Border with Mexico

1) The summary of the article

Mexican people immigrate to Central America. More than 10,000 children who don’t have guardian come to the US after October of last year. They say that they’re just traveling, but they’re stopped at the US border. They wish that their family is able to immigrate to the US. Many victims caught, but they will be taken off immediately. Because there are no detained rooms. Even if the US send them away, they come again. There is a sister who take care an emigrant in Texas. Her name is Norma Pimentel. She led an immigration to the Catholic Church of the Rio Grande Valley.

 

2) My opinion

Countermeasure of an immigration problem can’t be proposed easily. Because there are many reasons that people have to emigrate. For example the thing with the low labor wages of them country. Moreover the number of the person who emigrates is very large. So fundamental solution from advanced country is needed. Such as donating, national maintenance and so on. But it’s also a problem to do the refugee who suffers immediately bluntly. So I think that a charity like a sister of this article is more necessary. Two districts of aid by a country and people’s cooperation is need for solution immigration problem.
