Copycat movie? Filmmaker denies knocking off Pixar’s ‘Cars’

It is said that the movie, “The Autobots” that has released recently in China is the copy of Pixar’s animation “Cars”. The poster, the title and the characters of “The Autobots” are so similar to these of “Cars”. Many Chinese movie goers disappointed and said “shamelessly copied movie” about it. A spokeswoman for Pixar doesn’t issue the clear statement but she says they have the same opinion of many movie fans. The director and production of “The Autobots” admit that they learned from Disney movies, but insist the movie is original one. Also, the director says he has never watched “Cars”.

From my Japanese perspective, I don’t think we can buy fake products and we shouldn’t permit everyone to sell them. The reason I think so is maybe I am a Japanese. Japanese products are often copied, especially electrical products. However, my discussion leader said that in poor country like Cambodia, there are people who make a living to sell imitated products. Truly, if fake products were rampant, producers of real goods would receive damage for instance, in the aspect of sales. But after I know that fact, I think I can’t necessarily say copied product should be rooted out absolutely.
